Depth of Field notes

Depth of Field notes

Depth of Field refers to the zone of focus in a photograph or the distance between the closet and farthest parts of the picture that are reasonably sharp.

It is determined by three factors:

  • lens opening - the smaller the aperture used, the greater the depth of field. e.g. F16 creates an area with far greater depth of field that F2.

  • focus distance - the greater the focus distance(from camera to subject), the greater the depth of field. e.g. A lens focused 15 feet away from the subject at the same aperture will have a greater depth of field than a lens focused 5 feet away from the subject.

  • focal length of the lens - the longer the focal length of the lens, the smaller the depth of field.

    Breaking the Rules Techniques

    Breaking the Rules Techniques

Technique # 1- Focus on the main object, and blur the background ( The main subject will stand out from the rest of the photo because it's clear and detailed)

Technique # 2- cut off heads(Usually, when we take pictures, we focus on people's heads(a bit boring)- but if we cut the heads off- it will give the image a very interesting look! )

Technique # 3- Only focus on one part of the object, and take it very closely ( The photo is going to look very interesting because you can't really tell what it is )

Technique # 4- Only focus on what's really close to the camera, and leave the rest blurred (not the whole thing's in the camera- it creates a cool effect!!)

Technique # 5- If you try to take a picture of a mirror /or anything that reflects, you will get a cool reflection of yourself which will create an appealing effect!!!!

    Assignment One- Beauty

    Assignment One- Beauty

    1. Describe this photo in detail. i.e. subject, background, lighting, textures, colors and placement.
The main subjects in this photo are the flowers. They bloom in dark pick and in red. The lighting in this photo came from above; therefore, the lighting in the center is the brightest and gradually, it gets darker as the flowers are farther from the center. The background of this picture are some pink flowers and green leaves. It is kind of blurry, because the main focus of this shot is in the center. Because the flowers are taken from close- up and focused at the center, you can see every little details and textures of the petals of several flowers. The flower in the center of the image is the only flower that faced up and the all the other flowers are faced sideways.

    2. Explain why you took this photo and why is it your favorite.
I took this photo on a sunny day outside a flower shop. I decided to take this photo because I thought the color is very attractive and that it would be really pretty if I take a shot of it. Fortunately, it turned out the way that I expected to be. I really like how it’s really focused in the center and not so much in the background. Furthermore, I really liked the atmosphere and the feel of this picture. therefore, this is my favorite shot.

    3. How does this image reflect “beauty”?
This image reflects beauty because of the atmosphere it’s creating. Because it’s pink, it creates a romantic and tranquil atmosphere, which makes people feel extremely peaceful and relaxed.
