Depth of Field refers to the zone of focus in a photograph or the distance between the closet and farthest parts of the picture that are reasonably sharp.
It is determined by three factors:
lens opening - the smaller the aperture used, the greater the depth of field. e.g. F16 creates an area with far greater depth of field that F2.
focus distance - the greater the focus distance(from camera to subject), the greater the depth of field. e.g. A lens focused 15 feet away from the subject at the same aperture will have a greater depth of field than a lens focused 5 feet away from the subject.
focal length of the lens - the longer the focal length of the lens, the smaller the depth of field.
